As the days roll into weeks and the authorities continue their efforts to sort out the damage done to the Square, the day-to-day realities of the small businesses in limbo, and their on-going financial obligations, continue. And while it also takes time to settle insurance claims, closed businesses generate no positive cashflow.
To this end, HBDC is proposing to offer affected businesses located on or near the Square, Tornado Recovery Loans of up to $10,000. These loans will be granted to businesses that are planning to reopen but need to bridge the gap between: disaster recovery plans, insurance settlements, and an actual date of reopening when revenue begins to flow once again.
As many of you may already know, HBDC is an alternative business lender and these loans will be interest-bearing. Your first choice to bridge the gaps identified above should be your own bank using existing financial tools – it’ll probably be cheaper. However, if that option isn’t available to you, HBDC may be able to help.
For these ‘Recovery’ loans, HBDC will forego its usual application/business plan/collateral requirements in favour of a streamlined 2-page form and simple promissory note. Similarly, payments will be postponed through to December 31st 2011, commencing only in January of 2012. Additionally, interest will initially be postponed and will not accrue during this time. However, on the January 2012 loan disbursement anniversary date, HBDC’s usual rate of interest of Prime + 4% will begin. Note that HBDC loans are open and may be repaid at any time.
